Cendi L. Houston
   1951–2026

Cendi died on September 26, 2026, in San Marcos, Texas, after an extended battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brothers, Jim and Doug.

Cendi loved contrast. She had a gift for finding clothes in retro shops and transforming them into original pieces that made people turn their heads. She was one of those people who collected wonderful life stories: she once lived on a sailboat and won sharpshooting competitions in high school. An avid ghost hunter, she joined groups and meetups to search for spirits in all sorts of places.

She loved birds and had pet birds for nearly all her life. She was also an amazing healer through energy work and reflexology. Cendi was highly opinionated and had a heart of gold. She was well-read and kept up with politics and the environment, and we all happily spent many hours in pithy debates with her.

When cancer returned for the second time, Cendi was upbeat about her chances of beating it again but as her illness progressed, she entered hospice. Her team at Bluebonnet Hospice was wonderful, helping keep her comfortable during her final months.

I spoke with Cendi every day, so I will miss her terribly. Cendi, I hope you’re creating new adventures and having a blast in your next chapter. LOVE YOU!!  Take care—and drop us a line when you get a chance!

  1. I moved to austin in 1984. Soon after I met Cendi. One of our favorite things to do was to choose an interesting sounding pub and go drink a pint together. We found the best places, met interesting people, heard great live music and tried so many different types of beer. I’m going to find you on the other side Cendi! I hope you are checking out the pubs to try. Love YOU! I miss you so much!

  2. Hi Cendi,
You always knew how to make me laugh. Even at your most difficult times, you found a way to be positive and enjoy life. I loved sharing photos of my chickens with you and seeing all the funny memes you sent me back. I was just reading what Cheryl wrote and a beautiful rainbow filled the sky outside my house. Was that you?!? It sure made me think of you. I hope you’re doing everything you ever wanted to do. Thanks for spreading joy when you were here!! ❤️🐓

  3. Aunt Cendi,
So many of my childhood memories include your presence. I loved talking “ghost talk” with you. You definitely had some crazy-cool experiences with the supernatural. So hey, if you are still around here would you do me a favor and show me a sign? Maybe scare the sh*t out of my man Jason? He is always playing pranks and I’m way too scared to prank him back because of the promised repercussions. I wish we had the chance to get together once more before you left just so you could have met Jason and so I could give you one more hug. Fly on gentle soul. You won’t be forgotten. Love you.

  4. I found Cendi to be a bright light. Even through the pain, she thought of others. Her eyes had a special light that shone compassion.

  5. Hey Cendi it was great reconnecting with you after 58 years. Catching up with you and listening to all your adventures. You always had a spot in my heart. The last two years was great talking to you. You are more than welcome to stop by in my dream to say hi and give me your beautiful smile. Skip

  6. Cendi had such a good heart along with a wickedly witty humor. I’d known her for about 22 years, and early in those years she did very helpful and healing reflexology work on me.

  7. Cindi – she shined, she was kind, she was dedicated, she was caring, she was talented. She was always smiling, always happy; but most of all she had an aura of peace and acceptance of others that made you feel you had loved her forever. She was a beautiful soul and I’m glad I met her.
