At the time that Mr. Pinckard was hired the new Travis County medical examiner’s office was in the process of being built in Austin. Details About the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office

The Travis County medical examiner’s office was completed in 2018. The massive 52,000+ square foot building is a huge upgrade from the former facility that only had four desks for more than a dozen medical examiner’s to share. There were also just two autopsy stations even though the Travis County medical examiner’s office serves 43 counties.

But building a new medical examiner’s office wasn’t just about having more space. Constructing from the ground up allowed Travis County to design a highly efficient yet aesthetically pleasing facility. Now with nine autopsy stations and cutting edge technology, the Travis County medical examiner’s office is among the best in the country. It’s one of just 10 medical examiner’s offices in North America with a CT scanner that can examine skull and bone injuries without performing an autopsy
