Travis County Burial Program

The Travis County Burial Program provides assistance for those individuals and families who have no resources to cover the cost of a burial.

Step 1 - Submit an Application

Green Cremation Texas/Cremation.Green is one of the county’s contracted funeral homes. We will provide you with a written referral once you complete the following application.

Step 2 - Vital Statistics

Here, we collect essential demographic details about your loved one. This information is crucial for finalizing the death certificate accurately.

Required Documents Checklist:

  • Photo identification for all Legal Next of Kin and the Decedent (e.g., Driver’s License, Military ID, State ID, or other government-issued ID).
  • Social Security Card or Number for the Decedent (if available).
  • Documentation verifying the relationship between the Legal Next of Kin and the Decedent (e.g., Birth Certificate, Marriage License, or other legal records).
  • Proof of residency in Travis County.
  • A completed application, including all necessary notarized documents.
  • For Veterans, a copy of the DD214 form is mandatory.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Determined by the Decedent’s income and available resources.
  • Household Gross Income must not exceed 100% of the federal poverty level.
  • Income assessment is based on the previous 30-day period.
  • The Decedent must have been a Travis County resident at the time of death or have passed away in Travis County.
  • The applicant must provide evidence of being the Legal Next of Kin.
  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old or an emancipated minor.
  • Household assets or resources must not exceed the $2,000.00 limit.
