Summary
Cremation.Green was named the top funeral home in the U.S. by Nubia Magazine for its eco-friendly services and forward-thinking approach, including water cremation and natural organic reduction. The company aims to provide compassionate care and expand access to green funeral options, working with legislators to change funeral codes. They have been recognized for educating the public about the environmental impact of funeral services and advocating for more sustainable practices.
When Cremation.Green got started in 2018, our founders had already been in the process of doing things differently and wanted to establish a funeral home where others could do the same. At that time very few people were talking about water cremation, and natural organic reduction wasn’t legalized at all yet. The cremation rate was creeping upward, but it hadn’t yet become a mainstream news story.
Striking out and going against the grain isn’t always easy. And in business it’s risky. But for us, what we do is far more than business.
For everyone behind Cremation.Green the mission is bigger than business operations. We aim to provide compassionate care for the families that use our eco-friendly services and to continuously work towards making our services available to more people. We couldn’t be happier that our work is paying off!
Cremation.Green Recognized For Eco-Friendliness and Alternative Funeral Services
Doing things differently can get you attention for a lot of reasons. At the beginning, there was a lot of doubt about what we were doing, but for us that was a positive. Anyone who questioned what we were doing actually led to greater awareness about disposition services that are better for the environment.
Even as consumers become more eco-friendly in many aspects of their life, it’s amazing how few people consider the impact of funeral services. Cremation.Green has been an outspoken advocate that believes education is a key component of changing the conversation and getting more people asking about green funeral services.
The strategy seems to be working.
In recent years the discussion about disposition has opened up. To the point that 68% of people are now open to the idea of green funeral services in lieu of traditional burial or cremation. The demand has gotten so high many funeral homes are currently trying to figure out ways to lower the impact of their services to remain competitive.
It’s the kind of change that we’ve been working toward for many years. Not everyone is ready to select natural organic reduction, but the fact that so many people believe the option should be available is what makes the biggest difference to us. We’ve always felt that disposition is such a personal decision all safe options should be available for everyone.
But as it is, which funeral services are available is primarily regulated at the state level. In an effort to create positive change, Cremation.Green has worked with state legislators in Texas to expand the funeral code so that it includes aquamation and natural organic reduction as legal forms of disposition.
It’s this kind of work that is now catching people’s attention. Cremation.Green was recently highlighted in Nubia Magazine as the top funeral home in the U.S. Why? Because of our broad selection of eco-friendly services and forward-thinking approach.
Nubia Magazine wrote that Cremation.Green is, “redefining the funeral business with its ecologically responsible approach . . . (Cremation.Green) stands out as a pioneer in providing end-of-life care that is both ethical and environmentally responsible at a time when environmentally conscious decisions are becoming increasingly important.”
Nubia Magazine focuses on stories about human civilization from ancient to modern times. The platform brings together editors and contributors from around the world that discuss various aspects of life and history from many perspectives.
While some funeral homes were applauded for their beautiful grounds or years of service, only Cremation.Green was noted as having eco-friendly services. Other funeral homes on the top 10 lists include:
- Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary in San Diego, CA
- D.W. Brooks Funeral Home in San Antonio, TX
- Recompose
- Memphis Funeral Home
- Hansen Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix
- American Heritage Funeral Home – Various Locations
- Bradshaw-Carter Funeral Home & Cremations institution in Houston, TX
- Sunset Funeral Homes – Various Locations
- O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Indianapolis
We’re so appreciative to be recognized as the top funeral home in the country, and to be singled out for our efforts to make services more eco-friendly. When other funeral service providers didn’t feel like environmentalism was a priority, we held true to our beliefs even when it meant doing things in a way they’ve never been done before. It’s those very differences that now make Cremation.Green one of the best funeral homes in the nation.
Changing Disposition For All Texans
Some funeral homes coast along with the industry trends happy to keep their businesses profitable while others set out to change the status quo for the better. It’s not easy given that funeral services are interwoven into our culture, religion and societal norms.
Many people have long held beliefs about funeral services that are automatic, and they are often resistant to challenge them. It’s only been outside forces like financial considerations and environmental concerns that have prompted people to reevaluate funeral services.
At Cremation.Green we set out to expand funeral options, not just for our clients but for all Texans and beyond. As people have opened up to the idea of cremation over burial we’ve seized the opportunity to go deeper with the discussion. While public attention was on the shift towards cremation, Cremation.Green was among the select organizations that kept the conversation going by discussing why new alternatives were even more beneficial.
It’s rewarding to see our funeral home singled out for environmentalism, but we still have a ways to go. We will continue working tirelessly to get the Texas legislature updated so that all Texans have access to the same disposition options that the majority of Americans can now choose. And once we meet that goal, our efforts will be put towards continuing to educate the public about the environmental impact of funeral services and what we can do to minimize it.
Because each funeral service makes a difference for all of us.
