Wayne’s World Was a Wonderful World – Wayne D. Hachenberg, aka Wild Hog Wayne/Wayno, passed away peacefully on the “dark, sacred night” of January 2, 2022 with the strong wind and the new moon. Born on a military base in Newfoundland, Canada on another cold winter day in 1952, he died at the Driftwood home he recently built with his loving wife Lynn of 50 years in their treasured state of Texas, surrounded by his wife and the family of his son Aaron.
Father to Aaron (Charlotte) also of Driftwood, and Alicia (Christian) Wilhelmy of Cincinnati, Ohio. Grandfather of 5 Oscar (19 – University of Montana), Nina (16), and Annabel (12) of Cincinnati and Caden (14) and Seth (12) of Driftwood who all loved their Grumpa and Pa dearly.
Passionate about life, family and fun, Wayne loved music from an early age, beginning with trumpet in school ages and focusing on guitar and singing throughout his entire adult life since coming of age with 70s music and playing as often as he could until his hands would no longer cooperate.
Eagle Scout; 1970 Graduate of State Champion John H. Reagan High School – Go Raiders; Air Force veteran; Electrical Engineer educated at his beloved University of Arkansas – Go Hogs; choir singer; amateur actor; career salesman; volunteer and good time guy. He loved sunrises, golf, SEC sports especially football, teaching about the many things he knew and mostly singing.
Devoted son of Dale and Wanda, brother of Don, a Vietnam veteran, who precede him in death. Married for 50 happy years to his high school sweetheart Lynn Carman with whom he enjoyed most recently singing karaoke and watching their grandsons play baseball and perform in school band.
Christmas light installer extraordinaire, flag tender, landscaper, and lover of water – especially fishing with his grandsons.
Founder of the Austin SEC Club upon returning to his home city after raising his family in East Tennessee. Enthusiastic promoter of the local chapter of Arkansas Alumni and creator of scholarship fund at his alma mater.
Local celebrity by virtue of his frequent call ins to Bob Cole’s show on KOKE and Craig Way’s show on KVET (Voice of the Longhorns).
Devotee of Sunday morning gospel and lifelong fan and uncanny imitator and admirer of Willie Nelson.
Upon receiving his last rites, his words to his family and to all were “take care of each other”. We will Wayno. “What a Wonderful World” you leave behind, made better because you were once in it. May you Rest In Peace.
