Sarah Alice (Cox) Roebuck
Birthplace: Rising Star, Texas
Resided In: Austin, Texas

Sarah Alice (Cox) Roebuck, 92, passed from this life on June 19, 2021 at Westminster Manor in Austin, Texas. A graveside service will be held in Rising Star, Texas at a date to be determined in the fall where she will be buried in the Cox Family plot beside her husband.

Sarah was born July 3, 1928 in Rising Star, the daughter of Claude M. and Ollie May (Jones) Cox, and attended Rising Star schools. Sarah Alice left Rising Star after graduating from high school in 1945 and carried the town and its people in her heart throughout her life.

Sarah agreed to substitute for a friend on a blind date with Robert L. “Bob” Roebuck. Their courtship included exchanging many letters as Bob traveled the world as a sailor in the Merchant marine. Sarah and Bob married in 1954 in Rising Star.

Sarah completed a degree in Medical Technology at North Texas State University and worked as a medical technologist in hospitals in Corsicana, Austin, Dallas, Washington, DC and Las Cruces, NM. During her years in Las Cruces, Sarah served as President of the New Mexico Chapter of the American Medical Technologist’s Association. On leaving Las Cruces, Sarah returned to Austin, joining forces with husband Bob in a financial services practice where she worked until retirement.

Sarah enjoyed making things. She crocheted baby blankets and quilts and was known for the chile rellenos she learned to make in Las Cruces. Sacks of green chiles were shipped to Austin from New Mexico each year and no family gathering was complete without them. Sarah was a big fan of the Texas Longhorns, and she was a season ticket holder for Lady Longhorns basketball and Longhorn football for many years. Sarah greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren, and her family pride and outgoing nature shined through as she shared family news with everyone she met.

Left to cherish Sarah’s memory are her children, Carey (Marcy Berbrick) Roebuck of Brewster, MA, Robert “Bobby” Roebuck of Austin, TX, and Martha (Matthew) Wilding of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren, Jake (Erin) Wilding of Fairfax, IA, Bill Wilding of Cedar Rapids, Alex Roebuck of Austin, and Ben Wilding of Cedar Rapids; and her great-grandson, Finnigan Wilding.

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Florine (Cox) Forbes, her brother Robert (Betty) Cox, her infant son Claude Roebuck, and her special cousin, Gloria Jean (Jones) “Girlie” Phillips.
