Rachel Holcomb Sommers, 82, passed away on February 7, 2026, at Brookdale Westlake Hills in Austin, Texas. She was born on December 4, 1943 to Loy and Pauline Garner Holcomb in Pontotoc County, MS.
She was a graduate of Ecru High School, where she was involved in various student organizations and participated in multiple extracurricular activities.
She loved reading, gardening, interior design, fashion, consuming news and popular culture, and most importantly, walking and conversing with beloved friends. She spent the majority of her adult life in Midland, Texas, where she worked for over two decades at luxury boutique, Julian Gold. After retiring, she moved to the ArborView Circle C Ranch community in southwest Austin to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Hoyle Holcomb, Sam Holcomb, and Tim Holcomb; three sisters, Willa Horton, Wilma Berryhill and Lois Smith; and her husband, Al M. Sommers III.
Survivors include her brother, Clinton Holcomb, of Sao Paulo, Brazil; her children, Cindy Freeman and Al M. Sommers IV; and her 10 grandchildren – Taylor, Haley, Jack, Allie, Matthew, Casey, Charlie, Zach, Jordan and Carson.
