Margaret “Joan” Hagler Curtis

Margaret “Joan” Hagler Curtis, 87, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024.  Joan was born on September 21, 1936 to William Dennis (Jake) Hagler and Bertha Mae Scott Hagler of Anson.  She was the oldest of three daughters and big sister to both Kathy Barron and Beth Huber.  Joan was raised on a cotton farm and married her High School sweetheart, Robert Lee Curtis.  Together they raised three children, Becky Smiley, Keith Curtis, and David Curtis.  With their young family, Bob and Joan moved to Odessa where Joan spent many years working as an office assistant to their family doctor.  After relocating back to the Abilene area, Joan managed the Hendrick’s House for Hendrick’s Hospital for several years before moving to Kerrville where she continued assisting families at a Retirement Center in the care of their loved ones.  She later retired, living in the Plugerville area where she could be close to family.

Joan was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, and the BEST Nani Jo.  She treasured her family above all else and never forgot a birthday or anniversary.  She lived her life putting others first and believed that keeping in touch with family was the most important and always came visiting with a batch of homemade cookies. Her visits and phone calls will be greatly missed by all.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert (Bob) Curtis, and both sisters.  She is survived by her children Becky Smiley and husband Dennis of Hutto, Keith Curtis of Midland, and David Curtis and wife Belinda of Arlington. Six grandchildren, Zach Smiley and wife Jessica, Jake Smiley and wife Meggie, Kate Smiley, Chris Curtis, Brittany Rainey and husband Nate, Abbey Youngblood and husband James along with fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on October 19, 2024 at 11:30 at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, Texas.
