Dr. Luis Roberto Sánchez Zepeda passed from this life and onto his eternal resting place on February 13, 2022 with his family by his side.
Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on September 22, 1939, Luis was the eldest child of Roberto Sánchez and Carmen Zepeda. He grew up with 7 siblings, playing soccer and attending church with his mother who instilled in him a lifelong love of God. He felt a calling to become a doctor and although school never came easy to him, through discipline and hard work, he became a revered Obstetrician. He loved recounting the time when he delivered 32 babies in one weekend!
In 1988, he moved to El Paso, Texas with his wife Sylvia and their three children. For 20 years, he crossed the border to Juarez to serve patients as a General Practitioner at the ISSSTE. Luis was a kind and spiritual man, whom many called “Toriu” – a nickname his children gave him years ago. People were drawn to his warm energy and zest for life. He laughed easily and felt deeply. Books brought
him to tears, music brought out his dance moves. He was an avid exerciser who never missed a run or a visit to the YMCA. But above all, he was a devoted husband, a warmhearted father and, later, a beloved grandfather. He could be seen at the park pushing his grandkids on the swings while singing Spanish Cri-Cri songs.
He was so proud of the family he co-created alongside the love of his life, Sylvia. His children felt his unconditional love each and every day. Although their loss is great, the impact of his love is greater. It’s a love that has been woven into their own families and will continue to be passed down, generation after generation. Luis is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sylvia Robles Sánchez, his 3 children,
Luis J. Sánchez, Andres Sánchez and Jennifer Nuñez, and his 11 Grandchildren. Luis was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 10970 Bywood Dr. El Paso, Tx 79936, where he will be celebrated during a Mass on March 18 th at 11 am. Burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragosa Rd. 79907.
