Layne Hood

Layne Gregory Hood, born on July 14, 1978, passed away Tuesday morning, July 22, 2025, surrounded by his family.  Layne was born in Plano, Texas, and graduated from Canyon High School in 2000. Layne was an active participant in the Embrace community at Austin Ridge Bible Church, where they called him Pastor Layne. He loved superheroes, his family dogs, and all his family members fiercely. He loved his parents and was very protective of his sister. His favorite activities included listening to music, dancing, watching movies, and of course the Dallas Cowboys. Oh, and don’t forget his birthday and Christmas!! Layne could light up a room when he wanted to and did so at church where he has made many friends. Layne has touched so many lives and always knew who he was and whose he was. He is now made whole in heaven and is at peace. Layne is survived by his mother, Cheri Varney, his father Kirk Varney, his younger brother and sister, Brent Garland and Jennifer Doss. Layne’s celebration of life ceremony will take place on August 30th, from 1-5:00pm, at the Bethany Lutheran Church Community Life Center. In lieu of flowers for his services, the family asks that you donate here , where we can positively impact direct staff who helped Layne during his life.
