Judith Kern Harper

Judith Elaine Kern Harper was born on November 18, 1936, and passed from this life on December 29, 2024.

Judy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Sam Y. Harper; her children Scott Harper and his wife Cheryl, Shelly Blomstedt and her husband Steve, Sara Taylor and her husband Chris; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was born in Austin, lived in Nebraska, Venezuela, and Virginia before moving to Seguin and attending Texas Lutheran College where she graduated with a Magna Cum Laude Bachelor’s Degree with a Chemistry Major and Math Minor, as well as a Teaching Certificate.

After marriage, she worked for Columbia-Southern Chemical in Corpus Christi, and, later, taught Math in Sinton and Corpus Christi.

In 1987, she and Sam moved to Austin where she continued teaching in the Austin public schools and at Austin Community College.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she continuously devoted her life to God, family, and others. Her life was exemplified by her devotion to God.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 1:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church; 409 W Ben White Blvd, Austin, TX.  There will be a reception and time to greet the family immediately following the service.

The family would like to thank Frances Valero, and the entire staff, at The Auberge at Onion Creek where Judy lived the last five years. And also, Nora Starkey and the team at Traditions Hospice. The care Judy received from both was exemplary.
