Jimmie Williene Story

On April 18th, two weeks shy of her 103rd birthday, surrounded by family, Williene Story left our side and went home to be with our Lord. She was the first born to William and Mary Smith in Huntsville Texas, the older sibling to Jacquelyn and John Warren. In high school Williene was an honor student, involved in many clubs and activities, and once made the paper when she and a date were kidnapped by escaped convicts. They were forced to drive for hours before being released unharmed. While attending college classes during World War II Williene knitted socks, bandages, and helmet liners for the soldiers overseas. She was active in Huntsville’s First Christian Church and exchanged letters with soldiers from the church. After graduating from college, she was hired to teach college English classes to returning Veterans. When one of her pen pals, Calvin (Bill) Story, returned from the war they became sweethearts, married, and began a 46-year journey together. As their family grew, she taught Special Education in one of the first neighborhood schools that included such classes. She received phone calls and letters from some of her former students for years. Williene was an avid reader and loved to sew for her family. She was an enthusiastic genealogist and became a member of DAR and DRT. After retirement she continued participating and leading Christian Women’s Fellowship activities, and enjoyed volunteering for historical organizations, traveling with her husband to research family history, and participating in Eastern Star. As a family, we benefited from the strong foundation of her love and the example that it gave us to follow. She is survived by her brother, John W. Smith; her children, Calvin Story Jr. (Judy), James Story (Doris), Camille Noell (John), Andrea Story (Robert Clark); grandchildren Adam Story, Scott Story, Kym Waring, Kerri Larkin, Jason Story, Nicholas Story, Joe Noell, Nora Clark, Finn Clark; and 10 great grandchildren.
