Jack Donald Maxwell was born July 23, 1944, on an army base in California, to Edwin Clinton and Lucille (Kay) Maxwell. He left this world on February 24, 2026, at the age of 81, after a brief battle with cancer that he fought bravely.
After WWII ended, Jack’s family moved to San Antonio where he grew up and graduated from Edison High School. As a teenager, he dreamed of being a professional baseball player or gospel quartet singer and never lost his love of watching sports and enjoying music. However, he made his way to the business management world and worked in several different industries. He only recently retired from his job at ABM Industries, where he oversaw the parking garage at Austin City Hall, managing his employees with kindness and interacting with the public with professionalism.
In 2006 he met Donna Maxwell (they had a lot of giggles over already sharing a last name), and they married in 2007. They enjoyed their life together growing Donna’s cake business, being involved with church friends and activities, taking vacations to South Padre, and raising their former dog Maggie and, later, their current dog Peaches, who faithfully watched over Jack during his illness.
Jack is survived by his wife Donna Maxwell who cherished their relationship. He will also be missed by his children: Clint Maxwell; Jill Johnson (and husband Jimmy); and Amber Jordan (and husband Jeremy). He was very proud of his five grandchildren: Jake, Josie, Anna, Jaxon, and Jemma. His is also survived by his first wife Virginia Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Karen Kay Todd. His large extended family held an annual reunion in Stephenville, Texas, for decades, and we find peace knowing he is back with them enjoying a southern potluck meal and sharing memories.
His family would like to express appreciation to his church family and all the healthcare professionals who cared compassionately for him these past several months.
A celebration of Jack’s life is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Westoak Woods Baptist Church in South Austin. A private graveside gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in Jack Maxwell’s name to his church at www.westoakwoods.com.
