DeAnna Day Phillips

Sandra DeAnna Day Phillips passed away 4/17/2023 

DeAnna was born on 12/13/1938 in Houston TX to Glenn Leonard Day and Wilma Kiker Day. 

She grew up with 2 younger brothers, Glyn and Doug Day in Tulsa OK. When she was a sophomore in high school they moved to Odessa TX, she was on the swim team and sang in the Choir at Odessa High School and graduated in 1957. She attended Texas Tech University where she joined Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Home Economics and Education. She earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of TX at El Paso in 1973. 

While attending Tx Tech she met and married Billy Hargis in 1958, together they had 3 children Kellie, Wood and Samuel. 

DeAnna taught school for El Paso ISD 1962-1973. Was an Ector County Juvenile Probation officer in Odessa TX 1973-1977. Taught Vocational Adjustment for Van Horn ISD 1977-1980. Taught Special Ed for Irving ISD 1980-1985, was a Diagnostician and later a Home Bound teacher for Leander ISD 1985-2019 and finally retired when she was 80 years old! 

She married Paul Phillips in 1989 and together they joined Crosspointe Church in Austin and were very active members. They traveled the world going to Brazil, UK, Canada, Greece, Turkey, Italy and most of the USA. She 

loved to travel and experience other cultures. 

She enjoyed volunteer work at the Austin Angel House soup kitchen and the Round Rock Area Serving Center. She had a serving heart and enjoyed helping others. She loved the Lord and was a kind Christian woman, sang in the choir of every church she joined. Loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs and anything Texas Tech played. 

She was very independent, smart, funny and loved being with family and most of all her granddaughters. She had many friends and kept in touch with them. 

DeAnna is survived by her daughter Kellie James Bourne (Richard) of Wylie TX, sons Wood Hargis of Pflugerville TX, Sam Hargis (Ann) of Twin Lakes WI. Granddaughters Kayla James, Emily and Grace Hargis. Step daughters Suzie Balduff (Marvin) of St Augustine FL and Paula Hale of Round Rock TX, granddaughters Madison Hale, Brooke Balduff and Megan Balduff Quintero (Yosip). Nephew, Glyn Day (Diana) nieces, Denise Neeb (Phillip) and Kimberlie Arnold (James). 

Proceeded in death by her husband Paul, brothers Glyn and Doug and parents Glenn and Wilma. 

A celebration her life will be 5/13/2023 at 2pm, Crosspointe Church, 5703 McNeil Rd, Austin TX 78729 In Lieu of flowers the family asks you make a donation to her church in her name.
