 Chui Ha Chow Woo


December 29, 1933 – September 7, 2024

Chui Ha was born on December 29, 1933 in Sek Kong Lee, Hoiping, Kwangtung, China. She was a brave survivor of the Japanese invasion of China, WWII, and the communist takeover of China. Chui Ha married Yin Pon Chow “Benny” Woo in 1948 and together had six children between 1950-1960. They all immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong in 1962 by US Congressional passed Private Bill Act where they eventually settled in El Paso, Texas and worked very hard to build a successful and comfortable life. Chui Ha and Benny learned to speak English and Spanish to open and operate their own businesses, most notably A-Z Grocery. Chui Ha was a loving matriarch, incredible cook, and social butterfly with many friends who adored her. She spent her golden years living a cozy life in Manor, Texas with her youngest daughter, frequently visited by the family she raised and cherished. Chui Ha passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the age of 90. Chui Ha & Benny Woo will always hold the honor and legacy of bringing their family to America.

Chui Ha was preceded in death by her father, Wong Ark Bow; mother, Quon Shee Bow; husband of 47 years, Benny Woo; eldest son, Paul Woo; and sons-in-law, Michael Randall, Cary Barrett, and Rouault Ray Buvia.

Chui Ha is survived by her children, Stella (wife of Paul Woo), Troy Woo, Roger Woo, Susan Barrett, Terri Buvia, and John Woo (Natalie); her grandchildren, Nancy Amedeo (Robert), Stephanie Woo (Stefan), Alan Woo, Paul Woo Jr (Peggy), Lindsey Ann Randall, Emily Albarran (Johnny), Benjamin Woo (Marlyn), and Cameron Woo; and five great-grandchildren (Xavier, Leon, Riley, Jordan, and Jet).

Chui Ha will be laid to rest next to her Husband at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
