Carol Stout, 77, of Cedar Park, TX, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Beacon Hospice in Round Rock, TX.
Carol was born May 13, 1948, in East St. Louis, IL to Rolston and Marie Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Doris, Homer, Donald (Don), Shirley, and Gerald (Butch).
Carol is survived by her children, Angela (Christopher) Collins of Cedar Park, TX, Joseph (Christy) Giglotto of Westborough, MA, and Scott Stout of Cedar Park, TX; grandchildren, Jonathan Giglotto, Lauren Collins, and Isabella Giglotto; brother, Dennis Smith; and numerous extended family and friends.
Prior to retirement, Carol worked for 24 years in the Perry County Illinois Circuit Clerk’s office, final position serving as the Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk, handling criminal and civil cases, administrative orders and juvenile cases. She served under Bob Heisner, Nick Dolce, Danny Wildermuth and long-time friend Kim Kellerman. Carol was active in and volunteered with numerous local and state organizations.
Above all, Carol loved her family and after retirement, moved to Texas to spend more time with her three grandchildren who lovingly call her Maw Maw. Carol was an avid traveler, achieving her lifelong goal of visiting all 50 US States, many of which in the company of her children and grandchildren. Conquering a fear of long-haul flying, she spent time exploring Europe and got to kiss the Blarney Stone in Ireland, listen to the pipe organ on Christmas morning in Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, and explore her heritage in Scotland and England. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Valhalla Garden of Peace, Belleville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association (ALA) to support Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) emphysema research in memory of Carol Stout.
