Camille Rhodes Petitpre-Harris

Camille Rhodes Petitpre-Harris aged 29, passed away on April 11, 2024 at 11:16pm in Austin, Texas surrounded by family and friends. Cause of death was anaphylaxis due to fire ant bites, which occurred during a remote-location photo shoot.

Born in Conde’sur-l’Escaut, France on February 13, 1995, Camille’s life was marked by travel and adventure. During her childhood in Africa (Central African Republic, Senegal, and Morocco) she became a passionate observer of the natural beauty surrounding her. The changing light and landscapes, wild animals, and the freedom to learn alongside other cultures contributed to her lifelong passion for travel, photography, and animal welfare.

At thirteen, a move to Marietta, Georgia brought new and at times challenging experiences and perspectives. While Camille graduated from Walton High School and continued to obtain her Associates Degree, it was her loyal and loving friends and her dog and heartmate, Sahara, that gave meaning to her life during these years.

After college, Camille worked as an online content creator and enjoyed the artistry of expression it allowed. Also, drawn to the broad expanses of the West, she chose to reside in Colorado, Utah, and finally Texas. Her favorite retreats were the canyons and swimming holes of Moab, Utah where she often spoke of wanting to return.

Throughout each of her 29 years Camille was cherished for her unabashed honesty and boldness, as well as her generous spirit, creativity, sense of humor…and her determination to live life to its fullest.

She is survived by her parents, Martha Petitpre-Harris and Serge Petitpre; her older sister, Mathilde Petitpre-Harris of Atlanta and her twin, Adele Petitpre-Harris of Marseille, France; other extended family that Camille held dear; and her dog, Sahara.

A service of celebration and remembrance was held on April 20, 2024 at Camille’s home. Loved ones from near and far gathered to honor her memory and share the impact she had on their lives.

Additionally, many generous contributions were directed to Austin Pets Alive!,  a shelter whose mission to save animals most at risk for euthanasia meant much to Camille.

Her laughter and light will be forever remembered and forever missed.
